Ulf). It builds on previous research on the Aramaic documents from Egypt and, for the first time, also evaluates the material sources for contacts with Egypt from the Southern Levant. Particular attention is paid to the different modes of reception of the objects and ideas of transfer and their entanglement with elements from diverse cultural contexts.

The analysis of these sources yields a geographically and chronologically differentiated result: Geographically, spaces of intense contacts were constituted by the semi-autonomous actors of long-distance trade, particularly along the coast of the Southern Levant and along the caravan routes in the south. The provinces in the central hill country, by contrast, participated—to varying degrees—only indirectly in these spaces of contact. Chronologically, these relations reached a peak in the 4th century, when a countrywide temple-building program in Egypt, as well as the foreign policy of late dynastic pharaohs, stimulated Egypt’s cultural production and contacts.

Overall, this work contributes equally to the archaeology of the Southern Levant and its cultural contacts as well as to the history of religion of the Hebrew Bible and its reception in Egypt.

Contact Information Theologisches Seminargebäude Kochstraße 6 91054 Erlangen jonathan.boehm@fau.de Phone: +49 9131 85-26506 Room: 0.006 Personal Profile Research

[20,21,68,47,34,60,38,37,27,28,33,25,26,31,32,36,29,35
post-17734","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry","en-GB
["GET
